Lawn is thinning: Causes: There are many causes for your lawn grass to start to die off and thin out. The overall reason will be is that the root system is unhealthy. When was the last time you fertilised your lawn? This could be the start to re-juvenating those thinning areas. Choose a fertiliser with a Good nitrogen phosphorous and potassium balance i.e. lets say the fertiliser has 11g of Nitrogen per 100g then a good balance would be 4g phosphorous and 8g potassium per 100g A great example of this would be LIAB fertiliser which we sell on our shop because of it’s perfect balance as a lawn food, We would recommend firstly to aerate (poke holes) into particularly thin areas and apply the fertiliser after your next mow. It’s never a bad idea to sow extra seed to help fill it out |

Brown Patches: Causes: Dog Urine, incorrect use of weed killers, sunlight blocked in area for over 3 days. As these are only patches it’s probably not a major issue. A great way to quickly get grass blades back to green quickly is to use an organic lawn paint to immediately cover the dead grass blades. Just before applying the lawn paint we recommend giving the lawn a boost of nitrogen to ensure the future blades will grow green. A great way of doing this is to use a high nitrogen liquid fertiliser. All grow garden plus fits the bill and we retail it on our store. |

Nut Grass: Causes: Dormant seeds normally arrive in mulch or topsoil introduced to the garden, can creep from under the fence / hedge from next door. Nut grass, also called nutsedge, is a pesky grass that is very hard to get rid of since the roots are very tenacious. They have nodules on them that look like small nuts. If you try to uproot nut grass, the roots tend to break off and the nuts will simply produce a new plant. The best way to get rid of nut grass permanently is to kill it with a herbicide. Up until recently the only domestically available product that actually worked was the non-selective herbicide glyphosate which you can paint onto the leaves of the nutgrass. This however is a very time consuming process and one that will have to be repeated at least 3 times also if you are not extremely carefull you will damage your lawn grass. Sempra selective nut grass herbicide which has previously only been available in massive quantities for commercial use only has recently been licensed for the domestic market. Patches in the lawn: Causes: The lawn had a brown patch and nothing was done, constant traffic over the same area, object left covering grass for more than 2 weeks, strong weed killer was used and grass died. The easiest way to fix patches in your lawn is using a product called lawn in a bag. This is a mulch made from fibre, seeds, starter fertiliser, and a gumming agent, simply loosen the soil, sprinkle a layer of the product in the patch then water frequently and watch your grass grow through as the mulch rots away after providing the perfect seed germination environment. 100% green couch to blend in with your lawn perfectly (if you have a couch lawn, Bermuda lawn, legend turf lawn, winter green lawn, or any narrow bladed green coloured lawn you can think of).

Weed Control and Identification: Identify and destroy. We recommend regular use of Kamba M to maintain a weed free lawn This Herbicide is a pre and post emergence control for the majority of broad leaf weeds and it should not harm your lawn providing it’s more than 3 months old. Unfortunately this will not kill paspalum or nut grass. Always read the label. |
